Competitions

“It is nice to have valid competition; it pushes you to do better.”

Gianni Versace

From sports day to young writers, designing a friendship bench to building cars, Kitebrook children are encouraged to take on the challenge of competition, and in recent years, have proven themselves excellent competitors and worthy winners of many accolades.

It is important that every child has the opportunity to shine, and the enormous range of competitions entered and run allows children of all talents their chance to challenge themselves, take a risk and demonstrate skill.

Many internal competitions are based on the well-established group system, and whether it be competing to earn the most merits and the group shell at the end of each term or collecting the most points to win the swimming gala, the collaboration and focus within each of the groups to do their best and be successful against their rivals is evident.

During the year, there is a wide range of sports events, the traditional Christmas Hat competition and in true Kitebrook style, even welly-wanging to win the coveted Golden Boot!

Away from the internal competitions, Kitebrook has increasing success in sporting events, regularly winning matches and tournaments against local prep schools. Success has also come from other departments, with every child entered in a poetry competition having their poem chosen for publication, several pieces of work being selected for display at an art exhibition in Oxford and a team of Year 5 and 6 pupils winning the national final of the Bloodhound SSC challenge to design, make and run the fastest car – a prize worth £1000.

In addition, pupils are introduced to the competition of life, with auditions for the school play and interviews for leadership positions held as they will experience in the future. The range of opportunities we offer help the children to learn the resilience needed to succeed and  the empathy required when you do.
